Sea Turtle nesting season runs from May 1 - October 31 in Volusia County

Sea Turtles Dig The Dark!

Sea Turtles

Very soon sea turtles will emerge from the surf at night and lay their eggs on Daytona Beach. The incubation period is approximately 2 month and the little hatchlings make their entrance to the world and crawl to the ocean! There are many obstacles for these tiny creatures such a sand holes, predators, trash and other items left on the beach by beach goers.

It is also unfortunate that beachfront lights from residential properties along "The World's Most Famous Beach"  keeps female sea turtles from nesting in addition to confusing the hatchlings that are trying to get to the water and instead head towards the roads and drain storms!

Scott Stiltner Port Orange City Council District 4 Gives Us Council News Details

Port Orange BridgeCOUNCIL NEWS from last night's marathon meeting; Council voted 4-1 to increase water / sewer rates 3% last night. A comprehensive study
indicated we are behind where we should be and recommended 30% increase over the next 5 years (6% per year) to keep pace with rising maintenance cost and project infrastructure needs. Council felt 6% was far too big of a jump and settled at 3%. This is the first increase in 8 years and will average out to about $4 per month, per home. A necessary evil, but responsible decision for our City.

A total of 15 residents of Port Orange were appointed to the City Manager Selection Advisory Committee last night, to assist in the process of…
