COUNCIL NEWS from last night's marathon meeting; Council voted 4-1 to increase water / sewer rates 3% last night. A comprehensive study
indicated we are behind where we should be and recommended 30% increase over the next 5 years (6% per year) to keep pace with rising maintenance cost and project infrastructure needs. Council felt 6% was far too big of a jump and settled at 3%. This is the first increase in 8 years and will average out to about $4 per month, per home. A necessary evil, but responsible decision for our City.
A total of 15 residents of Port Orange were appointed to the City Manager Selection Advisory Committee last night, to assist in the process of recruiting and selecting the next City Manager of our City.
Family Days Spring Fair event will be March 5th - 8th. Council approved 4-1 last night to allow a beer and wine garden on the Thursday evening event when all the food trucks are on site. Should be fun!
Council approved 5-0 the purchase of 5 new police motorcycles. POPD will be switching to Victory motorcycles after 25 years of having Harley Davidson bikes. The superior safety features and performance of the Victory motorcycles were the deciding factors.
First quarter FY finance report for the City was presented last night and all is well!
