Lines out into parking lot to get into Creek vs Atlantic FOOTBALL GAME Friday night!
Scott Stiltner, a good friend and neighbor, who has a passion for our community and is running for Port Orange City Council District 4 attended the football game Friday night. We reached out to Scott after the game and asked if he would guest blog post for us so that he could tell us about the exciting night for SPruce Creek H.S and Atlantic H.S.
Something incredible happened tonight in Port Orange. Atlantic High School and Spruce Creek High School played their pre-season Classic Opener at Spruce Creek High School. Both teams played very hard and put on a great game! Guess who won? . . . Port Orange won! The families won! The students for both schools won! And the fans that turned out won! The field was packed and it was standing room only! (No really, it was standing room only around the perimeter of the field. Weather was awesome and the game had electrifying moments. It was Friday night lights!!!! There were no problems and everyone had a great time. Oh yeah, when the game was over, a bunch of restaurants won as well. Houligans, TGIFridays, Chilis, Applebees and many more all saw a whole bunch of hungry fans, parents and players show up to spend their money. So I think you get my point! Tonight was a perfect example of why Atlantic High School and Spruce Creek High School should be playing ALL of their home games at their respective schools. It's a great thing. We need to stop wasting money renting a stadium in New Smyrna. I had a lot of parents come up to me and voice their opinion that they DO NOT want to keep playing at NSB stadium and they want their student athletes playing at their home fields. I think it is time to make this happen. We need a good partnership between the School Board, City of Port Orange and the Chamber of Commerce. I believe it is beneficial to all. So here is where we need to start. Below is a list of school board members for Volusia County. DO NOT email the principals or coaches at the high schools, they can't do anything about it. This must come from the top. Email everyone on the School Board and tell them how you feel about it. Tell them to stop wasting tax payer dollars by renting a stadium and having to pay to bus athletes, cheerleaders and bands to home games, that aren't really home games. Remember, these are elected officials! Your voice really matters. TO make it easy I have included the names and email addresses of the elected School Board Members (current). Let them know how you feel!
